Our Story

How it all started...

In 1878, a group of elders from State Line Baptist Church planted New Pleasant Baptist Church.  It started out a small congregation of 42 persons in its fellowship, "meeting in brush arbors and later in a one-room building made of logs and rough hewn boards.  But, it was known by the people of the community that those members, involved in doing the Lord's work, had a mind to work.  God came first in their lives.  These devoted Christians loved the Lord so much that they were willing to work unceasingly and to sacrifice meager earnings to establish this church." *  This devotion to Christ and unceasing sacrifice to serve Him and His church continued throughout the years.

* A quote from Edna R. Scruggs in the pamphlet "From a Mustard Seed"

Expanding the vision...

Though church buildings, pastors, and faces have changed over time, the goal of New Pleasant Baptist Church has remained the same; to glorify God in everything, especially by evangelizing our community and world.  Not just studying about church history but being the church now.  Not only studying about missions and missionaries but being on mission every day and supporting, sending, and going to all nations to proclaim the Gospel and fulfill the Great Commission.  To do so we strive to equip and send out more and more workers so that the kingdom is advanced.  We are always striving to be more biblical in the way we make disciples, worship corporately, and serve and love one another.

Where we are headed...

Through engaging daily in intentional and relational discipleship and hence making disciples who make disciples, we believe God will saturate our community with the Gospel.  We ultimately are headed to an eternal dwelling place with Christ Jesus, but until that day comes, we will continue the kingdom work He has called us to, making sure everyone knows the truth and love of God their Creator, Sustainer, and Lord.  We strive to be a Sending Church.  Not only meeting each week to worship and grow deeper in our walk with Christ, but also training and equipping the saints for ministry and then sending out more and more; for the workers are few, and the harvest in plenty.  Interested in joining us?  We would love to hear from you!
